John McLaren, B.S.E., D.D.S., M.S. (Restorative Dentistry)

Dr. John McLaren (Dr. John) was raised in Ann Arbor and graduated from the University of Michigan, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Material Science Engineering (BSE), followed by a doctoral degree in Dental Surgery (DDS). Dr. McLaren finished second in his graduating class and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary society. Dr. McLaren then completed a three-year master’s degree specializing in restorative dentistry at the University of Michigan, a specialty degree that fewer than 1 percent of practicing dentists in the United States have obtained. During this time, Dr. McLaren taught pre-clinical dentistry, oral medicine and diagnosis and held the faculty position of Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Dentistry at the University of Michigan. In 2017, Dr. John started teaching clinical dentistry again at the University of Michigan and has enjoyed re-connecting with many long-time faculty as well as being a part of the growth and learning for future dentists.

He has been an associate editor with The Dental Advisor publication and currently serves as a clinical consultant. His scientific background has helped him bridge the gap between research and clinical practice. Dr. McLaren has conducted research in reducing mercury vapor release from amalgam, strengthening of porcelain, color matching of composites and high-strength fiber-reinforced materials. Dr. McLaren has given numerous lectures and written published articles and book chapters, including in the publication “Esthetic Color Training in Dentistry.” He has had articles published in Dental Materials, Contemporary Esthetics and Restorative Practice, the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, and the Dental Advisor. He is a member of the American Dental Assocation, Michigan Dental Assocation, Omicron Kappa Upsilon (National Dental Honor Society), Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Sigma Mu (International Honor Soceity for Materials Science and Engineering), and Saginaw Valley District Dental Society.

Dr. McLaren has an unwavering dedication to providing each patient the best quality dentistry, while providing a comfortable experience. It is extremely important for him to truly understand each patient’s health objectives and customize dental care to meet each patient’s needs. Dr. McLaren has volunteered in the Michigan Special Olympics Dental Program, Helping Hands Dental Clinic in Midland, Mission of Mercy at SVSU and worked in the heart of Detroit serving as a dentist in the Detroit Community Health Connection. Dr. McLaren enjoys reading, home improvement, golf and bowling.


Charles McLaren, B.S.E., D.D.S., M.S. (Restorative Dentistry)


Dr. Charles McLaren (Dr. Charles) grew up in Ann Arbor, MI and received his bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.) in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan. His dental degree (D.D.S.) and his master’s degree in restorative dentistry were also from the University of Michigan. Dr. Charles has a background in dental materials and restorative dentistry, with a clinical interest in the area of cosmetic dentistry and all-ceramic restorations. While at Michigan, he collaborated in various research projects from 1995-2005 involving ceramics, amalgam, bio-degradable polymer scaffolds and fluoride-releasing materials. From 2000-2005, Dr. McLaren taught pre-clinical dentistry, oral medicine and diagnosis, and clinical dentistry as an Adjunct Clinical Lecturer and Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Michigan. Since 1999, Dr. McLaren has worked with The Dental Advisor publication as an associate editor, contributing author and clinical consultant. He has been invited to speak and present research at the International Association of Dental Research, Academy of Operative Dentistry and the Dental Advisor’s annual symposiums.

Dr. Charles has had research articles published in the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, Contemporary Esthetics and Restorative Practice, the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, and the Dental Advisor. He has also been a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Dentistry, a monthly peer-reviewed publication. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association and Saginaw Valley District Dental Society. He also holds memberships with Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Honor Society), Omicron Kappa Upsilon (National Dental Honor Society) and Alpha Sigma Mu (International Honor Society for Materials Science and Engineering).

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Beth, and two young boys, Ian and Anson. He also enjoys golfing, classical music and creating stained glass works of art. Many of his stained-glass panels are displayed throughout the office.


Melissa Janos, B.S., D.D.S.


Dr. Melissa Janos, D.D.S. is honored to serve Midland and the surrounding communities of Mid-Michigan. She is a native of West Bloomfield, Michigan and a summa cum laude graduate of Michigan State University, receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics. Dr. Janos’ dental degree was through the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, ranked as the #1 dental school in the United States. Dr. Janos graduated near the top of her class and received the Comprehensive Care Award, a distinguished award for having completed an exceptional number of dental procedures, and additional dental training. While at Michigan, Dr. Janos collaborated in peer-review published research projects involving clinical simulation laboratories and performance assessment.

Dr. Janos’ philosophy is to work directly with patients to create a treatment plan that is custom-fit to their specific needs and goals. She strives to provide patients with the knowledge necessary for making good decisions about their dental health. Dr. Janos enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, including but not limited to cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, preventative dentistry, and dental education.

Dr. Janos is an active member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and Saginaw Valley Dental Association. She is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa (academic honor society). Dr. Janos believes that serving the community is one of the most important aspects of her duties as a health care provider. She has volunteered at the Special Olympics Special Smiles organization, Mission of Mercy dental clinic at SVSU, and the Taft (volunteer) Clinic at the University of Michigan. Outside of dentistry, her interests include tennis, soccer, gardening, interior design, kayaking, and spending time in Northern Michigan.

 


FRONT DESK


 

Kate

Kate is one of the first smiling faces you will see at the front desk when you walk into our office. Kate is the hygiene manager in the office and has been in the dental field for thirteen years, with experience in clinical care as an auxiliary, as well as performing front desk duties. Her past experiences have taken her through fully digital dental care, as well as expanded duties as a dental assistant, where she became an expert at placing and carving dental amalgam! Whether doing clinical work or at the front desk, she thoroughly enjoys interacting with patients and hopes to make their day a little brighter. Kate resides in Pinconning with her husband, Richard, and their two sons, Bennet and Jaxson. They also have two dogs and a cat. In her free time, she enjoys reading, fishing with her sons, and shopping online. Kate was born and raised in Bay City and joined McLaren Dental Associates in 2018.

 


 

Zac

Zac is the insurance manager in the office and one of the front desk personnel you will see either checking in or checking out. His role in the office is to assist patients in scheduling, insurance utilization, and other front desk duties. Zac brings over eleven years of dental experience to our office, having been trained as a dental assistant. Zac also attended Saginaw Valley State University, majoring in Biology. He has a wealth of knowledge about computers, digital systems, and software and was tasked in McLaren Dental’s transition to a fully digital office in 2018. Zac was born and raised in Auburn and currently lives there with his daughter Claire. In his free time, Zac enjoys cooking, hiking, computer repair, and 3D printing. For many years, he has spent time renovating dilapidated properties in the tri-cities areas. Zac joined McLaren Dental Associates in 2018.

 


 

Bree

Bree works at the front desk and is involved in daily scheduling, and checkouts. She grew up in Munger and currently lives in Bay City. Bree and her husband, Jonathan have two children – Carson and Chase. In her free time, she enjoys shopping, camping, crafting, and being with family and friends. Bree is a sports enthusiast – she is a team mom for her children’s baseball teams, plays fantasy football and follows the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Tigers. Since she was young, Bree has always wanted to be in the dental field, helping to make people smile and feel better about their oral health. Bree has been in the dental field for fifteen years and joined McLaren Dental in 2019.

 


 

Jennifer P.

Jennifer (Jen) works at the front desk and is involved in daily scheduling, check outs, and insurance processing. She enjoys helping people achieve a smile that they love. Her hobbies include shopping, being outside, and swimming. She also enjoys watching football and hockey and is a Michigan State fan. Jen grew up in Chesaning, MI and moved to Grandville (near Grand Rapids), but has recently relocated back to mid-Michigan to be closer to family. She and her husband, Jeff, have a cat named Jillian. Jen has been in the dental field for over seven years and joined McLaren Dental in 2020.

Jennifer A.

Jennifer is a registered dental hygienist, responsible for daily patient dental prophylaxes, periodontal care and preventative treatment. She is the hygiene instrument and materials specialist, coordinating instrument maintenance protocols and materials standardization. She also focuses on children and teen treatment and education systems within the office. She enjoys the continuous patient interaction and strives to get to know each patient personally. Her husband’s name is Kevin and they have a daughter, Delainey, as well as a dog, Bella. Jennifer resides in Alger and is proud to call herself a country gal! She has been in the dental field for twenty-four years and with McLaren Dental since 2005.

 


 

Angie

Angie is a registered dental hygienist, responsible for daily patient dental prophylaxes, periodontal care and preventative treatment. She is the hygiene technology specialist of the office, integrating our computer dental software with patient care to optimize efficiency and standardize treatment amongst the hygienists. She lives in Saginaw and with her husband, Josh, and their 3 children-Miguel, Brooklyn and Cash. She has been in the dental field for thirteen years and with McLaren Dental since 2008.

 


 

Rachel

Rachel is a registered dental hygienist, responsible for daily patient dental prophylaxes, periodontal care and preventative treatment. She enjoys seeing the improvement in our patients’ oral health and their excitement when obtaining their dental health goals. Rachel and her husband Jordan and have a son – Bryson, a daughter – Brielle, as well as two yellow Labs. She was born and raised in Midland and has been in the dental field seven years, joining McLaren Dental in 2014.

 


 

Katie

Katie is a registered dental hygienist, responsible for daily patient dental prophylaxes, periodontal care and preventative treatment. She enjoys her role in helping patients improve their oral health through treatment, instructions, better home care, and diligent maintenance. Katie and her husband, Derik and have a daughter named Markie. She lives in Hope and enjoys photography, crafts, spending time with her family outdoors, and camping. Katie has been in the dental field for seven years and has been with McLaren Dental since 2015.

 


 

Adri

Adri is a registered dental hygienist, responsible for daily patient dental prophylaxes, periodontal care and preventative treatment. She enjoys educating patients about their oral health and forming strong relationships with patients as the come in for regular visits. In particular, she enjoys working on children and seeing them have fun at the dental office for checkups and cleanings! Adri was born and raised in Bay City and lives in Saginaw. Adri is recently married to her husband, Andy in April of 2019. They have a dog named Timber. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, working out at the gym, crafts, and spending time with her family. Adri has been in the dental field for six years and joined McLaren Dental in 2019.

 


 

Rebecca

Rebecca is a registered dental hygienist, responsible for daily patient dental prophylaxes, periodontal care, and preventative treatment. She enjoys her role as a hygienist, where she can directly help people’s oral health and likes seeing progress from beginning to the end of treatment. Rebecca grew up in Saginaw, enjoys hanging out with her family, her boyfriend Namon, and reading books. Rebecca has been in the dental field since 2016 and completed her bachelor’s degree through the University of Michigan thereafter. She started working at McLaren Dental in 2017 as a substitute hygienist, becoming a regular team member in 2020.

 


ASSISTANTS


 

Ashlee

Ashlee is a dental assistant, with daily clinical duties and patient care. Ashlee was born and raised in Midland, graduating from Midland High School. She attended Delta College, receiving her degree in arts in 2005. She and her husband, Phil, have a son named Bo. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music and traveling. Prior to working with McLaren Dental, she was a certified pharmacy technician for six years. Ashlee has worked in the dental field for over ten years and joined McLaren Dental in 2014.

 


 

Renae

Renae is a dental assistant, with daily clinical duties and patient care. She has been in customer service and scheduling for many years and enjoys meeting new people and looks forward to getting to know them. She lives in Kawkawlin and has three sons – Treb, Jett, and Eli. She also has a Beagle/Shih-Tzu dog named Jax and two cats named Rizzo and Foo. Renae enjoys attending her son’s sports activities, riding her motorcycle, gardening, traveling, watching movies, and music. She especially loves outdoor activities, trying new restaurants, and is even a member of a sushi club! Renae has been in the dental field since 2018 when she joined McLaren Dental Associates.

 


 

Stephanie

Stephanie is a dental assistant, with daily clinical duties and patient care. She has two daughters – Caydence and Kennedy, as well as a young York-shorkie (dog). Stephanie has been in the dental field for over eight years and was raised and lives in Midland. She enjoys the family atmosphere that the city offers. In her free time, she enjoys traveling up north with her daughters and reading. Stephanie has been with McLaren Dental since 2018.

 


 

Anthony

Anthony works in the clinical areas as a sterilization assistant. He lives in Midland and has a Shih tzu dog named Seus. In his free time, he enjoys swimming, basketball, playing cards, and video games. He was originally born in Russia but moved to the United States when he was nine years old. Anthony started at McLaren Dental Associates in 2018 helping to integrate all of our files to digital format and joined our clinical staff in 2019.

 


 

Kellie

Kellie is a dental assistant, with daily clinical duties and patient care. Kellie’s dental training was though the United States Army reserves, where she performs her assisting duties regularly throughout the year as an active member. Kellie grew up in Saginaw and more recently lived in the upper peninsula, until relocating back to the area. She currently lives in Gladwin with her two sons, Koen and Dax. Amongst Kellie’s hobbies are painting, running, teaching Zumba and fishing. Kellie’s favorite feature of a person is their smile, thus her favorite part of working in the dental field is helping patients achieve a smile that they love! Kellie plays the trombone, having played it through college. Kellie has worked in the dental field for three years and joined McLaren Dental in 2019.

 


 

Andrea

Andrea works as a dental assistant, as well as at the front desk. She is always excited to meet new patients and enjoys the opportunity to provide a great dental experience. She has one son, named Jaxson and a cat named Angel. In her free time, she enjoys spending time at the beach, attending concerts, and spending time with her son. Andrea was raised in Saginaw, Michigan and attended Delta college for her assisting training, as well as a degree in applied science. Andrea has been in the dental field for six years. She joined McLaren Dental in 2018.
